TVPlay Setup Tutorial

Short, numbered walkthroughs for the five things new customers ask about most: signing in, the programme guide, favourites, a second screen and fixing a stubborn stream. Each one tells you what to press and what you should see.

Device-by-device setup guide

Add Your Login to the Player App

  1. Open your welcome email. You will see three things: a username, a password and a server address.
  2. Open the media player app. On the first screen choose Add Playlist (some apps call it Add Source or Login).
  3. Pick the login type named in your email. You should now see three empty boxes.
  4. Type the username, password and server address exactly as written. The server address starts with http.
  5. Press Next or Save. The app will show a progress bar while the channel list downloads, then a list of channel groups. You are signed in.

What you should see

A list of groups such as UK, Sport, Movies and News on the left, with channels on the right. If you see a blank list, go back one screen and check the server address for a missing character.

Switch On the Programme Guide (EPG)

  1. Open the player app's settings from the gear icon or the menu button.
  2. Find the section called EPG, TV Guide or Programme Guide.
  3. Make sure the guide source is set to the one that came with your playlist, then press Update or Refresh.
  4. Go back to the channel list. Programme names and times now appear beside each channel; press the guide button for the full seven-day grid.

What you should see

Programme titles with start and end times next to each channel. If some channels show nothing, the guide is still downloading; give it a few minutes.

Set Up Favourites and Hide What You Do Not Watch

  1. Highlight a channel you watch often and hold the select button (or open its menu).
  2. Choose Add to favourites. Repeat for ten or twenty channels.
  3. Open the groups list and choose the Favourites group. This becomes the quickest way to channel-hop.
  4. To hide a whole group, open settings, find Groups or Categories, and untick the ones you never use. They can be restored at any time.

Use TVPlay on a Phone, Tablet or Second Television

  1. Install a supported media player app on the second device.
  2. Add the same login details from your welcome email.
  3. Remember that a standard pass plays on one screen at a time. If two screens try to play at once, the first stream stops.
  4. If your household needs two or more screens playing together, choose a multi-connection option at checkout and each screen gets its own stream.

Fix a Buffering or Frozen Stream

  1. Press back to leave the channel, wait five seconds and open it again.
  2. Open the channel's menu and switch to the alternative feed for the same channel if the player offers one.
  3. In the player settings, change the decoder from software to hardware (or the other way round) and reopen the channel.
  4. Switch the device from Wi-Fi to Ethernet or the 5 GHz band.
  5. Restart the app, the device and the router, in that order.
